Recently crowned King of the Dancehall, Beenie Man is set to sizzle inside the National Stadium on August 22 when he and a host of friends join together to celebrate the Dancehall Doctor’s 30 years in the music business. With telecoms giant, LIME, on board as title sponsor this year, the event is dubbed LIME Beenie Man Sizzle.
The dancehall pioneer and trendsetter, who at the recent launch of the event, stated that his original intention was to host a free concert, until the reality of the costs hit home, announced that he would nonetheless be giving away 5000 tickets.
“It will be celebration in the truest sense of the word,” a spokesperson for the organisers stated. “Beenie actually wanted to do the show for free but there are a lot of costs associated with staging it at the stadium so we had to go this route,” she said, adding that “LIME has really been very good to us”.
Sizzle will be organised in segments, including oldies, soca, a Gaza segment, Big Ship and possibly an Alliance segment.
Among the performers confirmed for Sizzle are Capleton, Shaggy, Tony Rebel, Queen Ifrica, Sizzla, Funkmaster Flex, Olivia from G-Unit, Hurricane Chris, Bunji Garlin, John Holt, D’Angel, Etana, Fanton Mojah, Maya, Mr Vegas, Ce’Cile, Vybz Kartel and the Portmore Empire, Destra, G Whizz, Nesbeth, I-Octane, Junior Reid and Andrew and Wada Blood.
