At the start of this year, reggae’s newest singer/deejay duo, Black Judah warned that they were coming with a new sound to the world. Now as the end of the year approaches, the team of Patrick Hall aka Sugar Black and Dylan Judah, is coming to rock Sting.
Having been booked for the greatest one-night show on earth, Black Judah, is few weeks away from actualizing the assertion they made in that January interview when they told this reporter “in the near future we really going to spring some surprises in a phenomenal way”.
In fact, they have already started to raise more than a few eyebrows with the release of Mercy Please, their popular single featuring Warrior King which made it to the number one spot on the Top 20 Reggae Countdown charts, RETV MVP and CVM Hit List Top 5 Reggae Chart.
Black Judah’s follow-up single, Don’t Give Up, taken from their upcoming album, Roots World Order, is already creating a stir. It has been enjoying heavy rotation on the air waves, and a video has already been completed.
“The idea behind the video is about a struggling man who a try make something out of life,” Sugar Black explains, “Him get fired from his job and him have him youth fi feed and tempted to give up hopes. But remembering his wife and children, him always hold on with that sense of purpose.”
Another single Do Your Best, has hit the streets and expectation is high, that is only a matter of time before it will do the same to the charts. “We have three singles for the year now. Mercy Please which went number one for five weeks, Don’t Give and now Do Your Best, the latest one on the market, Sugar Black noted.
“We did these singles because we just trying to get our name out. An album is now completed and going to be out first thing come next year,” Dylan Judah chimed in.
Predicting that 2009, will be even more productive with greater volume of releases, he added. “The album of 21 songs will be called Roots World Order. Next year suppose to be even better than this year. We have some new collaboration in the mix we are keeping as a suprise until the time come. Ms Trinity is one such artiste.”
During this past summer the duo toured from San Diego all the way to Northern California for 14 dates, performing on all the major festivals including Reggae Rising, Reggae On the River and Sea Breeze. With Dylan Judah a caucasion native of California who is the deejay member of the group, and Sugar Black from Jamaica, the singer, has often been a surprise for their overseas fans.
“For most people it comes like a kind of surprise when they look and see me as the deejay and Sugar Black as the singer,” Judah told the Observer.
“We kind a shocking the people so we just leave them in shock. We deh pon it. we’ll continue writing songs. We’ve a certain quality and a certain standard that we keep. I love the response it’s beautiful to see how the work is expanding. 2009 the world is mine. 2000 and mine. As you know we a come from the roots. From Sugar Black and Lehbanculeh,” added his Jamaican partner for the past four years.
