Deva Bratt held for carnal abuse – Second such charge for deejay

Portmore Empire artiste, Deva Bratt, is currently in police custody after he was held last Monday evening on carnal abuse charges.

The Waterford police has confirmed that the Portmore-based deejay, whose real name is Sheldon Smith, was taken into custody in connection with an alleged case of carnal abuse, committed against a 14-year-old girl.

Reports from the police are that the entertainer was picked up at his home in Westchester, Portmore.

According to the investigators, on Monday morning, the 14-year-old victim was walking along a street in the Westchester community when advances were made at her. She was subsequently held by two men and dragged into a room where she was sexually assaulted.

The victim then went to school and reported her ordeal to the guidance counsellor, who advised her to seek medical attention. Following the examination, the police was called in and an investigation led to Smith being arrested and charged.

However, further checks by THE STAR has revealed that it is not the first time that the entertainer is being accused of committing a sexual offence. He is currently before the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s Court on a separate carnal abuse charge, involving another 14-year-old girl with whom he is accused of having a relationship. Deva Bratt is to re-appear in court on Monday, February 11, to answer to that charge.

Misunderstanding

Deva Bratt, who had spoken to THE STAR in an earlier interview about his alleged case of carnal abuse said, “It was all just a misunderstanding between a under age young miss weh did a mention mi name a school seh wi deh an it reach a station. I went to court to really clear up my name, because wah happen, di girl did run weh from har yard an did deh a man yard an suh tru me use to be like a mentor to har, people did get di wrong idea.”

He also said, “Although mi vex bout di whole ting, a history, tings happen weh mek up yuh history, an tings ago happen but dem tings nah guh stop wi, is always a learning process.”

Deva Bratt, who was recently in the media spotlight for his ongoing lyrical feud with fellow deejay Munga Honourable, is known for songs like Gussy Clarke, Bungle A Gyal, Wurth It Gyal and Auto Tune.
