After over a month of family tragedy, Jennifer Hudson said she feels blessed for the four Grammy nominations she received Wednesday. The singer and actress, who has already won an Oscar, may add Grammy winner to her resume next year.
“It’s been a childhood dream of mine to release an album, so to receive four Grammy nominations is truly a blessing,” Hudson said in a statement released by her record label. “I’m extremely honored and humbled by the nominations.”
Hudson is up for Best R&B album for her self-titled LP, as well as Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song for her debut single, “Spotlight.” She also snagged a nomination for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals for “I’m His Only Woman,” her duet with fellow “American Idol” contestant Fantasia.
Jordin Sparks is the only other “Idol” alum who managed to get a nomination  Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals for her duet with Chris Brown on “No Air.” According to the Los Angeles Times, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, David Cook and David Archuleta all had releases that were eligible for nominations but were snubbed.
The nominations must have been a welcome distraction for Hudson in the same week when her estranged brother-in-law, William Balfour, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the October murders of Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew. He was denied bail in Chicago on Wednesday.
