Hundreds of mourners streamed into a private funeral service for singer Jennifer Hudson’s slain mother, brother and nephew at a church on Chicago’s South side on Monday (November 3).

According to the Chicago Tribune, the two-hour wake came to an end with the former “American Idol” contestant spending a few moments at the coffins of her late family.

She first paused at the casket of her 7-year-old nephew Julian, then moved on, gently touching the body of her mother. The paper said that Hudson remained composed, as she leaned down to kiss her mother goodbye. She then paused again before her brother’s casket before taking her seat.

Then, later, “American Idol Season 3” winner Fantasia Barrino sang the gospel classic, “Your Grace and Mercy,” calling the Hudsons “my family.” During the performance, she walked off the stage and into the aisle, taking Jennifer’s hand and sand directly to her.

The funeral ended shortly after, with procession moving to the cemetery by a horse-drawn carriage.

Hudson’s mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew were found shot to death late last month. The two adults were found at their Chicago home, while 7-year-old Julian was discovered in a vehicle found several miles away. Julian is the son of Jennifer Hudson’s older sister, Julia Hudson.

So far, no one has been charged in the shootings, although authorities have called Julia Hudson’s estranged husband, William Balfour, a “person of interest.” He remains in custody on a parole violation.

The Hudson family will be buried at Oak Woods Cemetery on the South Side.

The funeral follows a private memorial service on Sunday (November 2) at Pleasant Gift Missionary Baptist Church which garner about 100 people. Afterwhich, thousands of mourners filed into the small hall, writing condolence notes on cards bearing images of the three victims.
