Macka Diamond throws 'Back 2 School Giveaway Party'

Dancehall’s Money goddess, Macka Diamond, says she is doing her part in assisting students in acquiring back-to-school items.

Macka, who recently assisted with the enhancement of the music department of five rural schools (York Castle, Marcus Garvey, Ocho Rios, Iona and Oracabessa High), has decided to extend a helping hand for students going back to school.

“It’s back-to-school time and yuh done know how it go, parents have it hard sometime, so I am just lending a helping hand,” Macka said.

“We have teamed up with Jamaica Beverage, distributors of Caribbean Cool, Fruta, Chubby and Viva Water, and Cooyah, to make all this possible. Trust me, it’s going to be great, we already had two beach parties for the summer at Margaritaville in Ocho Rios, so the children already know what to expect on Friday, August 22. This time, it’s even going to be bigger and better, because we are not just planning on entertaining, we are attempting to give every child, who comes out to the beach party some sort of school supply to assist with getting them prepared for school.”

No hesitation

According to senior marketing coordinator of Jamaica Beverage, Gary Matthews, “We are excited about this project. Caribbean Cool is a new drink we have on the market and when the opportunity presented itself, there was no hesitation to become the title sponsor for such a great project. We were actually thinking about doing a back-to-school project ourselves, so when we were approached by Ingrid Larmond, managing director of DiamondDistrict Ja, to partner with them on their project, it was almost automatic.”

Andrea Levy, marketing manager of Cooyah, is also excited about the project, as she was present at the first beach party, where she had fun with the students, playing volleyball on the beach.

Every child, who turns out to the Caribbean Cool Back 2 School Beach Party, can come expecting not only a great day of fun on the beach, but they can also come expecting to be entertained by the likes of RDX, Dadda, Gospel sensation Ryan Mark, a contingent of local performers, plus they can all come prepared to take their back- to-school packs home.

Larmond noted that the school supplies will include bags, books, lunch kits, pens, pencils, rulers, among other items, so students in the area should come out to the beach party to see what’s in store for them before they go shopping for back-to-school, as they are bound to receive something personally from the ‘Money Goddess’ that they will be able to scratch off their list.

So why such a project for the Money Goddess? A smile gives way to: “I am a single mother myself, so I know the challenges that are faced. Since I’m in a position to make somewhat of a difference, hey?” Macka commented, with a shrug of the shoulders before saying, “I’m just doing my part.”
