After violating his probation last year with an unauthorized trip to Los Angeles for the American Music Awards with Nicki Minaj last November, Meek Mill had to wait an entire holiday – with the idea of going back to prison looming in the back of his head. Luckily, the Philadelphia rapper received some good news today, learning he’ll have to serve 6 to 12 months on house arrest.

The ruling was handed down by Common Pleas Judge Genece Brinkley on Friday, January 5, when Meek, real name Robert Williams, appeared in court.

TMZ reports that Brinkley sentenced the rapper 6 to 12 months in county jail, but opted to let him serve the time on house arrest. After 90 days she will reevaluate his progress to determine if he will be given more time.

There is a catch to avoid the county jail time, as he’ll be inactive from rapping and performing for possibly the rest of the year; which he’ll only be able to do charitable work for the community of Philadelphia. The Judge banned him from releasing any new form of music, which means no more diss tracks at Drake – at least for a few months. He’ll have to turn himself in by March 1st, as Meek will get an ankle monitoring bracelet. Let us know in the comments your thoughts on the ruling.
