Reggae songstress Sophia Brown is about to release another ballad that she hopes will help her build on the success of her hit song Weak To You. Entitled When You Love Someone, the song is a duet with Anthony Q. She describes her latest work as a ‘big love song’.
She recorded the song about a month ago and had planned on singing it as well as another new one called Give Me Your Love during the celebrations for the athletes, but she was unable to make the date at the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium last weekend. She was disappointed because she said she wanted to sing Give Me Your Love for former world record holder Asafa Powell. She blushed as she revealed what her plans had been.
Weak To You is currently number one on the VTX charts on Hype TV and CVM’s Hit List. It is also number two on the Fiwi Choice charts and number seven on the Jamaica Music Countdown. The song’s success has meant increased visibility for her, a reality she is still to get used to. She explained that recently while attending a wake in St Mary for reggae crooner Beres Hammond’s mother, people were coming up to her telling her they have seen her video on television. These occurrences, she says, makes her realise that she has to follow up on the success of Weak To You with songs of equal calibre.
In addition to the pending release of When You Love Someone, for which a release date will soon be made public, Brown will be flying to California in just over a week to shoot a music video for her other love song, Give Me Your Love.
After that, she begins preparations for a short trip to South Africa at the beginning of December following which she expects to have a pretty busy Christmas season. “I’ve been getting calls for some major shows here, so I am really looking forward to a busy season,” she said.
