Spragga Benz prepares for Life Fest

Deejay Spragga Benz is in preparation mode for his charity show, Life Fest Peace and Love Concert, a project of the Carlyle Foundation, established in memory of his late son.

The second staging takes place this weekend at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in St Andrew, and the organisers say it will be bigger and better.

“We’ll be having a treat in the day for between 300 and 400 students from Franklyn Town, Holy Family and St Michael’s Primary Schools,” Spragga Benz explained. “This is a new feature and it’s just our way of showing more love to the children.”

Spragga noted that all the acts have been confirmed for this weekend’s show. “Damion (Jr Gong) even voiced one of the ads, and he will definitely be there,” Spragga assured, in reference to Jr Gong’s no-show last year.

The deejay noted that all the artistes on the show were committed to the foundation and it had been easy to get them on board. In addition to a strong local contingent, overseas acts Jazmin Sullivan, Allison Hinds and Liam Bailey have also embraced the cause.

“The artistes all wanted to support the cause and I just have to give thanks for their generosity,” he said.

Spragga Benz, whose real name is Carlton Grant, said he has long contemplated finding a way to give back and assist in a meaningful way. The Carlyle Foundation, he said, provided him with the right opportunity at the right time.

“Last year we gave the funds to needy students of Camperdown High, in particular those who are playing a positive role in their school community. The teachers and the foundation members were involved in the selection process, and we are pleased at the outcome,” Benz added.

Confirmed to perform on Life Fest Peace and Love Concert are Stephen and Damion Marley, Jazmin Sullivan, Allison Hinds, Liam Bailey, Capleton, Richie Spice, Queen Ifrica, I-Octane, Konshens, Chino, Laden, Briggy, Tajji and Spragga Benz.

Hosts for the evening will be Free and Bambino. Showtime is 10:00 pm.
