Teedra Moses

Since dropping her debut album Complex Simplicity back in 2004, Teedra Moses has been patiently preparing for her comeback. In this SOHH Exclusive the R&B songstress talks about her upcoming film role as Wendy Williams’ pal, her next album The Young Lioness, and why she decided to step away from songwriting.

As a writer, Moses has penned plenty of hits for other artists such as Christina Milian, Mary J. Blige, Kelly Rowland and Trina, but she’d rather be known as an artist in her own right.

“At this point in my career I’m extremely focused on people knowing Teedra Moses the artist,” she told SOHH. “All those songs that I’ve given to people are just songs that I wrote as an artist. I like writing for people or writing with people but that’s a compromise.”

Instead of bulding catalogs for other artists, Moses decided to take a step back to and focus on her own album, The Young Lioness. This time around she reunited with Poli Paul and Raphael Saadiq, producers who were involved with her debut. In addition, she hit the studio with different producers like Warryn Campbell and Cool and Dre which gave her a chance to stretch herself and try different sounds.

Though her sophomore project does not have a release date as of yet, the New Orleans born singer promises her fans she will be putting out plenty of music in 2008, including her appropriately titled mixtape, “The Young Hustler Volume Three: Royal Patience.”

“That’s all I’m trying to exude right now is regal royal patience,” says Teedra. “I hope people get into it and enjoy it. I’m just trying to have fun this year. No matter what happens, I want people to hear my music.”

In the meantime, Teedra Moses fans can look forwarding seeing her playing a “snappy” friend of Wendy Williams in the shock jock’s biopic, Queen of Media. While Moses is excited about exploring an acting career, she promises to bring the drama or walk off the set.

“If I’m not equally as good at acting as I am at performing on stage and singing and songwriting,” she said, “I won’t do it because I’m not into wack stuff.”
