The Kingston & St. Andrew Corporation partners with Half Way Tree LIVE

Kingston, Jamaica: The Kingston & St. Andrew Corporation in association with the NSWMA, Nanook Enterprises and the Wright Agency are to stage Half Way Tree LIVE, which began Monday, December 13 and continues through to Sunday, December 19, 2010 at the Nelson Mandela Park in Half Way Tree.

At the crux of this cutting-edge event is the Capitalizing on Cultural Parks and Gardens Project (CCPG) a project devised by Nanook Enterprises Ltd. and realized through partnerships with The Wright Agency and the NSWMA. The CCPG project promotes the use of our cultural spaces (parks & gardens) as venues for live entertainment and showcases. In conjunction with the renewed efforts by the NSWMA under the superb guidance of Executive Director Mrs. Joan Gordon Webley to beautify and maintain natural public places the organizers of Half Way Tree LIVE have identified the Nelson Mandela Park in Half Way Tree to be the first space to host such an event.

Culturally, this event is a much needed step in the right direction but also Half Way Tree LIVE is designed to encourage and promote enormous social and economic benefit as seen by the KSAC who have fully endorsed this initiative by being just one of the major sponsors of the Half Way Tree LIVE event. The KSAC views this initiative as an exciting avenue and one which would be in line with their mandate: “To empower and meet the local needs of the citizens of Kingston & St. Andrew by providing effective and efficient services to enhance their quality of life and to participate in their development”. It is for this reason that the KSAC has jumped with both feet on board this excellent Project.

Half Way Tree LIVE is a must for this Christmas! Come and experience Jamaica the way it used to be and the outstanding performances from talented Jamaicans “like you’d never believe”. Performances at The Cotton Tree Theatre (Main Stage) include Ken Booth, U-Roy, Professor Nuts, Lovindeer, Anthony Cruz, G-Whizz and Oneil Peart. Up coming artists and an array of other entertainment such as dub poetry have a chance to shine on the One Side (Developmental Stage) for the nightly audiences But that’s not all, there will be the Pickney Pen and story-telling for the children, Food Village featuring food demonstrations by Grace Kennedy Company Ltd. and the Craft Village for all your local goods. Half Way Tree LIVE will be open every day from December 13 to December 19 from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.
