The Lion of SHEBA Prepares to Roar

New York, NY — After a rock solid year, hitting the charts on three continents (#1 Jamaica, #1 Afro FM (Ethiopia), TOP 30 UK Club Charts) and propelling her Dancehall infused Lovers Rock video “Love This Lifetime (Remix)” featuring Reggae superstar Bounty Killer onto stations like MTV UK and VH-1 SOUL from her self-run label, SHEBA is back with new songs, a new band, a new style and a new resolve to “tek dem by storm”.

Almost one year after her mind blowing, sold-out debut performance at the famed Joe’s Pub in New York City, SHEBA returns to the legendary venue on Saturday September 18, 2010 at 11pm with an all new backing band, Judah Tribe, a highly talented 11-piece band of local musicians that plays everything from roots reggae to hip-hop, gospel, r& b and African music, to deliver a show that will turn heads.

SHEBA, previously known as Sheba Sahlemariam, recently acquired the trademark for the name “Sheba”, extending from North America to the Jamaican market. “We decided to drop the Sahlemariam because Sheba was always my stage name. I’ve been using just the name Sheba since 2002 around the U.S., the U.K. and in Jamaica. My websites www.therealsheba.com and www.shebamusic.com have been up since 2004. We added “Sahlemariam” in 2008 to differentiate myself from other artists who began using the the name “Sheba” well after me. It was a logical step to let it go when we noticed the addition of my second name was not sticking and people were still just calling me Sheba. I also felt a certain responsibility to protect the legacy and integrity of the Queen of Sheba, my direct ancestor. Not everyone who’s been using the name Sheba has done so in a way that honors her special contribution to history.”

Aside from gearing up for her show, fans can prepare for an onslaught of new music from the talented singer/songwriter/producer. Later this month, SHEBA will release her new mixtape “The Lion of Sheba, Roars” featuring cutting edge DJ/Producers from the Electro and Dubstep worlds like Starkey and the Mischief Makers. The entire project is being put together by Dev79. SHEBA is currently finishing up her debut album The Lion of Sheba, which she co-produced, to be released by the end of the year. Production has also just begun on her second album, The Queen of Hearts. In the meantime, fans can go to her website www.therealsheba.com for free downloads of her new singles “Rat-Tat-Tat-Hot”, co-written and co-produced with Cooper Anderson, “Serious” remixed by Starkey in Street Bass style, and the first song Sheba ever produced in 2005, “Get Yo Story St8”, an ode to Fela Kuti and Michael Jackson, two of her musical heroes, and to the Hip Hop she grew up on.

See SHEBA live at Joe’s Pub, 425 Lafayette Street, New York, NY 10003 on Saturday September 18, 2010 at 11pm backed by 11-piece band Judah Tribe.
