Lil Kim

Late last week rumors swirled that Lil Kim was in the process of signing to Imperial Records. Although label representatives would not confirm the deal with HipHopDX, they also did not deny the rumors. Lil Kim’s management was also unavailable for comment.

If the move does indeed go through, Imperial will be Kim’s first home since Atlantic Records, where she released four albums, dating back to 1996’s Hardcore as well as her earlier work with Junior M.A.F.I.A.

Having just released the mixtape Ms. G.O.A.T. last month with DJ Mr. Cee, Lil Kim is preparing her first album since 2005’s The Naked Truth, an effort that garnered the coveted five microphones in The Source magazine, despite failing to earn any plaque. In the time between 2005 and 2007, Lil Kim served over one year in a Philadelphia prison for perjury.

Imperial Records is a historic imprint that was reactivated in the last two years by EMI. Responsible for such mainstream names as Cher, Fats Domino and The Hollies, Imperial’s new agenda has focused primarily on urban acts, namely Fat Joe, who found hit success both with “Make It Rain” and now with “I Won’t Tell.” Rasheeda and Bizzy Bone reportedly also are signed to the label.
