Kingston, Jamaica – Appleton Jamaica Rum will be the official rum of the social media party Retweet when the event takes place on the beach in Portmore this summer. The beverage, which is known for supporting high-quality entertainment events, will be flowing freely along with its counterpart Kirov Vodka.

This deal also paves the way for other brands in the extensive Wray and Nephew portfolio to be included in the upcoming event.

Appleton’s brand manager, David Walton, said that Appleton was extremely interested in the event’s concept and its execution plan.

“When we got the proposal, it’s something that immediately resonated with me. Social Media is leading the way in which brands can interact with consumers and it’s something that we here at Appleton are paying very close attention to.”

Brandon Allwood, Retweet’s conceptualiser, said that Appleton’s involvement in event was extremely integral to the successful staging of the first time event.

“Knowing that it is a first time event, I am very pleased that Retweet has been able to attract the investment we did from Appleton and the Wray and Nephew family. David and his team were able to see what the event is about and its sustainable nature,” said Allwood.

He continued that Retweet’s partnership with Appleton was shaping up to be a long and fruitful one.

“Since Retweet is looking to bring together people twice per year, and drive people to utilise the social media space in Jamaica more, I am looking forward to welcoming Appleton on board for future instalments of Retweet.”

Walton furthered that the brand was definitely looking forward to interfacing with social media through Retweet, and promised “an increased and further meaningful presence” on the platforms.

Last week, Allwood said that the party would be integrating the popular website Foursquare as part in the execution of promotional activities and also in a city-wide treasure hunt-at the end of which the winner will walk away with an iPad2.

Retweet will be Jamaica’s first mass social media oriented event, and will be integrating the three most popular social media platforms – Twitter, Foursquare, and Facebook – in the event.
