The regions’ only full-service telecommunications company, LIME, has teamed up with smartphone giants BlackBerry and the region’s only globally syndicated television show IN THE DANCE to launch an application for BlackBerry smartphones and a contest for viewers of the show.

The application, aptly named In The Dance, is now available in BlackBerry’s App World, will allow persons to record a 30-second video of themselves dancing and upload it to In The Dance’s Facebook page. But the show’s co-executive producer, Chez Gayle, says that the show and its partners LIME and BlackBerry are about to make the entertainment landscape “really exciting”.

He said that IN THE DANCE will be launching a contest, to ending on September 30th whereby dancers around the region would use the In The Dance BlackBerry App to upload videos of themselves dancing to the show’s Facebook page.

“After they upload these videos to our Facebook page, they will then have to get as many persons to ‘like’ their entry as they possibly can,” Gayle said. He continued saying that the competition would have a first place in all the participating islands receiving brand new BlackBerry handsets.

LIME’s regional special projects manager Stephen Price said that the competition is like “like nothing offered currently for other fan-based interactions for television shows or even on social media in general.”

Price, whose company LIME also has considerable and growing influence on social media, said that the entries will be allowed from the islands Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados, the British Virgin Islands, St Vincent and Antigua.

“These are all islands where LIME operates, and all our customers in these seven countries will have a chance to participate in the contest. Integrating all our customers as much as we can is something that is very important to us at LIME, as we are the region’s only full-service telecommunications company,” Price said.

Gayle also said that there are other plans to incorporate the app and IN THE DANCE viewers.

“We are still working out other ways we can incorporate the In The Dance BlackBerry app and our viewers, and those plans are almost finalised. These plans, combined with our exciting competition will make sure that IN THE DANCE remains one of the biggest things on Jamaican TV,” Gayle remarked.

IN THE DANCE, presented by LIME and BlackBerry, is aired locally on TVJ on Friday’s at 9:30pm. The show is regionally syndicated, airing 12 other Caribbean countries, and thanks to a syndication deal with Trace TV in France, the show will be aired globally to more than 22-million households.
