In other news, Lawyers representing noted Jamaican actress Shauna Chin are reportedly getting set to serve a cease and desist order on Gully Bop’s ex-fiancee, Laniece Shauna Anderson, who has also been using ‘Shauna Chin’ as her stage name.
The internationally acclaimed Jamaican actress, who works between Los Angeles and Jamaica, has been more than a little perturbed by the confusion being created in recent times as people have, understandably, been mistakenly attributing some of the press reports about Anderson to her.
The legal order barring the dancehall artiste from using her name was apparently done four months ago, but serving it was delayed because of the difficulty establishing a legitimate address for Anderson.
Shauna Chin was officially issued trademark notification for the use of the name ‘Shauna Chin’ as a brand as of March 3, 2010.
When contacted, however, Anderson told THE STAR that the name Shauna Chin was given to her as a child as a ‘pet name’.
“A so dem call me from me likkle. My middle name is Shauna, and they added the Chin because dem say me have Chiney eyes, however, my stage name is not Shauna Chin, it is actually Chin Chin,” she stated.
She added that while she understood the actress’ need to protect her brand, she stressed that as a Jamaican, she should understand that many individuals are given aliases as children. She said that she only learnt of the actress after seeing people tag the name in error on social media sites.
“The name Shauna Chin buss me, but going forward, I want to be known as Chin Chin. That is the name I am working with. I am trying to make a name for myself separate and apart from the whole Gully Bop relationship. Chin Chin is now the only name I’m working with.”
The international actress, writer, and director, Shauna Chin (TM), is most known for her guest-starring role on the Jamaican television series The Blackburns of Royal Palm Estate and the Festival De Cannes award-winning short film Choices. She also made an appearance playing the role of a doctor in the CBS TV drama Criminal Minds.
Born in Montego Bay, St James, the actress provides support for orphanages around the world and is an avid supporter of survivors of human trafficking.
Appointed as Jamaica’s goodwill ambassador by the National Association of Jamaicans and Supportive Organisations on June 6, 2011, Chin liaises between the Government of Jamaica and its diaspora to increase reinvestment in sports, entertainment, and culture.
Before deciding on a career in acting, Chin was enrolled at Wayne State University Medical School to study medicine. Her original goal was to become a cardiothoracic surgeon.
Shauna enlisted in the United States Army at 17 years old. At the end of her service, she received an honourable discharge as a veteran.
Shauna is a board-certified, registered nurse in California, United States, and holds two bachelor’s degrees – BSN Nursing and BA Health Administration.
