“It’s different and not something I expected Jay Will to come with.” -Vegas

There was an intimate atmosphere at the launch of Vegas’ ‘I Am Blessed’ video at the Indies Bar and Grill in New Kingston on Tuesday evening.

Eyes were glued to many television screens in the small and cozy venue upon entry. On these screens, Vegas’ many past videos were being played. During this time, the guests rocked to songs like Taxi Fare, Heads High, Daggering, Good Loving and Tek Weh Yuhself.

But even though the launch should have started at 7 p.m., Vegas did not arrive until 8:30 p.m. upon his arrival, the hilarious host Elva began the proceedings and commended Vegas on his good work over the years, and his body. “The only thing that has remained constant throughout all the videos is yuh body,” she shouted, the women in the audience nodding in agreement.

Overcoming obstacles

Video director Jay Will described the video as ‘mad’, and said it is unlike anything that has ever been done in Jamaica. He said he likes working with Vegas even though “him can sing but him can’t act”.

The video is set in Kingston and shows Vegas overcoming obstacles during a regular day. However, the interesting element is the fact that the music goes forward while the storyline goes backwards. Afterwards, his other new single, Up Deh, is blended into the video and at this point Vegas goes into a church.

The artiste, who is doing his seventh or eighth video with Jay Will, said he is pleased with the outcome, despite filming a section of the video on Monday.

“It’s a lot of work and I am very happy with the end result. It’s not good when yuh have the biggest and baddest of songs and yuh have this horrible picture. It’s different and not something I expected Jay Will to come with,” said Vegas, while noting that he did all the stunts in the video and received a few bruises in the process.
