Multi-platinum selling rapper 50 Cent will make his directorial debut in the upcoming film Before I Self-Destruct, set to hit theaters this winter.
According to Rolling Stone, Fif will be in complete control of the movie, tagged with the same title as his forthcoming album, but he has no intention of making it music-based like Jay-Zs Streets Is Watching or Prince’s Purple Rain .
“Its not Purple Rain, he told Rolling Stone. “But it was inspired by the actual music.
Unlike his 2005 autobiographical-based film Get Rich Or Die Tryin 50s goal with the project is to give viewers a more direct and understanding look at urban lifestyles.
“When [movies] portray certain lifestyles they dont show cause and effect, he explained. “But I showed characters under pressure in scenarios where they felt like there were no other options, even though there were. There are always options. People just usually start to see them while being incarcerated for not seeing them in the first place.
Similar to his first theatrical release, no tracks from the album, Before I Self-Destruct, will be featured on the soundtrack. However, this strategy was based on recruiting a roster of unsigned artists and creating a separate score to keep his label from being involved.
“[If not,] then Interscope would automatically have the rights to it, when they had absolutely no ownership of the actual material, he added. “I kept the music up to standards. I worked with it until it was right.
50’s Before I Self-Destruct album and film are both slated for release on December 9.
