A Unique Fashion Show

Every event is unique, but this one stands out even more than others for two reasons.

One, all proceeds will be donated to the Glenhope Place for Safety; and two, the event is put on by a student as part of a course at the university.

HM30B, meetings and Convention Management, has, as part of its requirement, a project where a group of students must plan and execute an event.

One of those groups has tried to ‘kill two birds with one stone’ by making its project about charity.

The group, called 3D Event Management and made up of seven members – Shenika Bennett, Desli Gabriel, Jheanelle Reid, Yasmin Lorraine, Jovanni Davis, Afreeka Edwards and Crystal Daye – is also asking patrons to donate toiletries, clothing, educational material and non-perishable food items.

Donation boxes for that purpose will be placed at the venue.

Tickets cost $200 and can be purchased before the event by calling 450-4265 or 297-3002.

Interestingly, tickets ordered this way will be taken to potential patrons.

The theme of the event is ‘Today’s Children, Tomorrow’s Future’, and it will feature Jamaican designers. Music for the proceedings will be provided by Marc Chin of Coppershot.

There will also be a raffle at the event which costs $100, the winner taking home two passes to Chukka Caribbean, Ocho Rios.

The Glenhope Child Care Facility is one of three government operated residential places of safety for girls 12 to 18 years. Girls are admitted to this facility if they are deemed in need of care and protection, if they are uncontrollable, or if they have committed offences.

Glenhope is a temporary residential area for girls until the matters are sorted out through the court system.

Many usually go back home on a Supervision Order, some are transferred to correctional facilities and some return to the institution on Fit Person Orders, being made wards of the State. The girls on Fit Person Order usually move on to children’s homes or foster care placements.

Supreme Ventures, Soft Sheen & Carson, Renaissance Disco, Shalico Sales Limited, Coldfield Manufacturers Limited, Chukka Caribbean and GraceKennedy have sponsored the event.

There will also be booths from Soft Sheen and Carson, Eyecandi and Isabelle Spa.
