Dancehall star Alkaline was on Thursday afternoon transferred to the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) headquarters in Kingston to undergo a second round of questioning in relation to a murder case.
The deejay, whose real name is Earlan Bartley, reported to the Area 4 police headquarters in Kingston at 9:25 am on Thursday, dressed in a red shirt, blue denim jeans pants and a red baseball cap.
He was wanted for questioning in relation to the murder of Rohan “Head” Morris of Three Oaks Garden in St Andrew. Morris was shot more than 15 times by armed thugs at his home in January. Sources say the 28-year-old unemployed man was slaughtered while next to a five year old child believed to be his daughter.
Bartley was transferred to the CIB headquarters just after midday Thursday.
The killing of Morris is said to be linked to an ongoing feud between two gangs in the community of Maverley.
“It is believed that (Alkaline) can assist (police) with the investigations,” a news release from the Jamaica Constabulary Force said.
Alkaline is being represented by popular defense attorney Peter Champagnie.
Through his attorney, the entertainer made contact with authorities, advising that he would turn himself over to the police for questioning on Thursday morning.
“Contact has been made from his attorney that he (Bartley) will be coming in for questioning today,” Assistant Commissioner of Police Devon Watkiss said earlier Thursday.
“We expect that very early we will be able to make some progress in this regard. We are of the view that the legal team in question is sufficiently credible that we can reasonably conclude that this will happen,” said the senior police man.
