Beenie Man's case put off until March

Popular dancehall artiste Moses ‘Beenie Man’ Davis appeared in court on Tuesday to answer to charges of tax evasion.

However, Beenie’s attorney was not present, as he was said to be at another court hearing. Therefore, Beenie Man is expected to return to the Tax Court in Kingston for a trial date on March 25.

The ‘Doctor’ reportedly owes the Government $29.29 million in back taxes and $18.64 million in penalties, bringing the outstanding amount to $47.93 million. When he last appeared before the court, the deejay said he was not aware that he had outstanding payments, and said his management team was responsible for such business.

In October of last year, when a warrant was issued for the deejay’s arrest, Beenie Man told THE STAR in an interview that he had planned to turn himself in to the authorities when he returned to the island, as he was, at the time, shooting a video with Barbee in New York.

But after failing to appear in the Civil Division of the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court, Resident Magistrate Owen Parkins issued a warrant for the immediate arrest of the deejay.
