The talk about the Fat Joe vs. Papoose fight hasn’t died down since it was first reported. Now, after both sides are out there, a new explanation has come out — from rapper Cassidy, who was on hand during the incident.

During an interview on New York’s Hot 97 radio station with personality, Miss Jones, the Philadelphia explained his side of things after Papoose made it seem — in several interviews — like he set him up by Cassidy, when he was invited to Cass’ hotel room just before Fat Joe arrived.

Cassidy spoke about the situation, claiming that he had no bad intentions when he invited the mixtape phenom to his room. Instead, he was just trying to build a relationship with Papoose, so they could possibly work together in the future.

“We was all staying in the same hotel,” Cass explained. “So it wasn’t like I called Papoose from his home to my home, and then something happened to him, or I called him from far away and he came into an unfamiliar area. We was staying in the same hotel on the same floor — Me, Fat Joe and Papoose. So I definitely wouldn’t set Papoose up… it definitely wasn’t my fault I was just reaching out, trying to communicate, trying to build relationships.

“That was actually my first time actually conversating with Papoose when I seen him in a hotel,” he continued. “I ran into him a couple of times and seen his face, but I never got a chance to bust it up with him or communicate with him. And being to the fact, that he’s up and coming and he’s doing his thing and he’s definitely got a little buzz, I wanted to build a relationship and hopefully we could have did a song or something in the future.”

He goes on to say that his crew answered the door when Fat Joe showed up — due to their longtime relationship — he was automatically let in. Cass said, though, that he had no communication with Fat Joe before hand, to call him, to let him know Papoose was there, further backing up his statement that it wasn’t a setup.

During the interview, Cassidy dodged questions about the actual fight, saying that he was either “not paying attention” or had already “excused himself.” He did, however, confirm that the two did exchange words at first, asking one another if they “had a problem?” before any blows were exchanged.

The rapper explained that if he had known about the beef prior, he would have tried to mediate the fight.

“I don’t know what the beef is over,” he told Miss Jones. “If I knew it was a beef already, I could have jumped up and tried to neutralize the situation. Like ‘don’t blow it out of proportion’ or ‘don’t do it in there.’ Due to the fact that they were on the radio the night before Fat Joe felt some type of way. I didn’t know about that. I was on the road traveling around doing my shows, so I didn’t know about the radio situation and I didn’t know that Joe had a problem with Papoose.”

Cassidy stressed that he wasn’t a shady person, and repeatedly explained that he had no reason to set up Pap, despite whatever is being said.

“All I really wanted to do is let the world know that I’m not a shiesty dude. I’m a good dude,” Cassidy expressed. “At the end of the day, when I’m building a relationship with a rapper or anyone in the world, I want them to feel safe around me. I don’t want them to feel like I’m a shiesty dude that’s gonna set something up.”
