Spanish Town-based dancehall singjay Checkdhat has launched his own label in a bid to solidify and structure his musical career. The fast-rising new talent says he takes pride in being a very business-oriented person and as such believes it is very important for him to own his music as well as control the direction his career goes.
“Checkdhat is a businessman who is an artiste as such anything I am doing must have a structure which is why I launched my label. I want to be able to release my music on my terms which would be almost impossible if had to wait on someone else each time and so Well Ruff Entertainment was formed” stated Checkdhat.
The former Jamaica College graduate who skillfully navigated the harsh streets of Spanish Town St. Catherine as a child says music has always been both his passion and saving grace. The artiste who started doing music as a mental escape from the day-to-day life struggles says he is also investing in himself plans to produce and sign other artistes when the time is right.
“I have a great team and we will be working with other talents when the time is right but for now we just pushing the brand with aim of becoming a global brand” Stated Checkdhat.
Currently, Checkdhat has collaborations out with the likes of Chronic Law, Shakstar and Kapella Don as well as buzzing singles such as “3 Points” and ‘Be Like We”. The artiste has also released a self-produced single and music video entitled “3Points” on his Well Ruff Entertainment label.
