Cherine pleased with latest work

Dancehall soul songstress Cherine Anderson has been very pleased with the public’s response to her latest video, Talk If You’re Talking, and single Shine On Jamaica.

Shine On Jamaica remains at number one on the WAVS 1170 top 11 Charts, making it four weeks at number one. It is also number one for a second week on the South Florida reggae charts and it has jumped three spots from number 19 to 16 on the New York Reggae charts.

The song has been picking up momentum locally as well as it was recently voted the top song on Roots FM’s ‘What’s the Verdict’. Her EP, The Introduction: Dubstyle, has also been highly rated by Vibes Magazine. And, CD Baby.com, a website dedicated to featuring independently released music, says of the music on Anderson’s album: “It’s really great music that respects the traditions of reggae’s past, yet sounds totally modern.”

Anderson could not be happier. “I am beyond pleased,” she said. “It’s just like a blessing. It’s kind of amazing to see you put a project out and the international reggae community supporting it like they have,” she said, adding that locally, the songs, especially Talk If You Talking, have been resonating well among her female fans whom she said tell her that she has brought their story to the fore.

It is also just reward for taking the risk of doing it on her own, having chosen not to take the regular route of having a distributor on board.

“It was a baby project for me and my manager, Patrick Lindsay, because it came out on Dancehall Soul/Zlink Entertainment so we didn’t go the route of using any of the distributors or record companies that most reggae artistes use. We wanted to test the waters on our own,” said Anderson.

She said the EP has also been doing well on tour as people have been buying it at the venues where she performs. “It’s good to know that people have been responding to the songs as well as they have,” she said.
