Craigy T says he is doing fine

Craigy T, one part of the popular dancehall group, TOK, is seeking to assure his fans that he is well, despite reports that he collapsed on stage while performing at a show in Rome.

The artiste recently revealed that he was diagnosed with a heart condition, which has forced him to make some changes to his lifestyle. He shared with THE STAR in an article published on August 3, that after having chest pains, he did an electrocardiogram (ECG) that confirmed that he had an irregular heartbeat. Since then, he said, he has been taking things in stride and doing his best to limit the potential effects of his condition.

He explained however, that although he did not collapse on stage, as reported, he did feel ill and ‘blacked out’ for a while after leaving the stage.

“I passed out a bit after the performance in Rome. It was about six days ago. I blacked out for a couple of minutes,” he said.

He does not believe however, this was caused by his heart condition, but rather because of over-exertion. He explained: “That was the third of three shows in a row. We had shows close together and back to back. Right before the show, I was eating, so I don’t know if that was what upset my stomach, but halfway through the performance, I felt weak and nauseous. I felt really, really weak, so I came offstage.”

He told THE STAR that he made it to his car and sat down for a bit before blacking out for a few minutes. After resting, he was back on his feet.

The deejay said in order to minimise the effects of his heart condition, he has made some changes.

“My hypertension is causing the heart trouble, so I have had to cut back on the sodium, I am on medication and I’ve made other dietary changes too. The weight is also a slight issue”, he said.

Adding: “I just want people to know that I’m good. I’m still strong, I’m on my medication. I don’t want people to feel like Craigy T mash up. These things are happening but I can deal with them once I pay attention to it.”

start foundation

His experience has led him to think about starting a foundation to assist those with similar problems who may be unable to fund their recovery or treatment. He said: “In just a week, I spent about $90,000. So I thought, what would happen to someone who had to do these tests but didn’t have the money?”

He said two of the group’s members lost their fathers to stroke and said it was an issue that hit close to home for them. Although the details have not yet been fine-tuned, he definitely knows that TOK wants to lend its voice and resources to the cause.

The group should return home from tour in early September and Craigy T plans to put things in motion for the foundation then.
