Fast-rising Dancehall artiste Checkdhat has entered the world of entrepreneurship with the purchase of his first coaster bus appropriately named “Checkdhat” which is already on route in the streets of Jamaica. The Spanish Town-based deejay says he takes pride in being a very business savvy individual which lead him to embark on this entrepreneurial challenge.
“I am an artiste but I am a businessman first, as such this move was a strategic one as we all must remember we are in the middle of a pandemic which is grossly affecting the earning potential of our entertainment sector as such we as artistes must be creative in terms of finding ways to earn. People must travel daily so a buss is a safe investment and this is just the start of my entrepreneurial portfolio” Stated Checkdhat.
The Spanish Town-based dancehall singjay has many reasons to smile of late considering his current run of form which has led to him quickly climbing the musical ranks with his current buzzing track entitled “3 Points”. While noting that he has not gotten the all-important buss as yet the deejay says he is grateful for the current buzz around his career and says he plans to build on it by doing great music for his growing fan base.
“The ting inna di street now, the songs on the hot mixtapes, radio, social media, tv and every time me buy a newspaper me see myself inna it suh me definitely grateful for the love the industry a show me. Right now its about building from here and showing the fans that I am worthy or their ratings suh a just none stop music from yah suh” Stated Checkdhat.
The former Jamaica College graduate who skillfully navigated the harsh streets of Spanish Town St. Catherine as a child says music has always been both his passion and saving grace. The artiste who started doing music as a mental escape from the day-to-day life struggles says he is also investing in himself by forming his own record label and plans to produce and sign other artistes when the time is right.
Currently, Checkdhat has collaborations out with the likes of Chronic Law, Shakstar and Kapella Don as well as buzzing singles such as “3 Points” and ‘Be Like We”. The artiste is also gearing up to release a self-produced single and music video entitled “3Points” on his Well Ruff Entertainment label.
