The Associated Press reports the rapper (born Earl Simmons) was picked up about 1:30 p.m. on Monday (June 23) by Miami Dade County Police. Authorities, who had an arrest warrant for Simmons for not having a valid driver’s license, took the Yonkers, NY entertainer to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Institute.

According to a spokeswoman, Simmons remained behind bars at about 5:30 p.m. The rapper’s bond was set at $500.

The arrest is but one of a string of recent encounters with the law involving Simmons.

The rapper’s most recent legal episode came last month as he pleaded not guilty to felony drug possession and misdemeanor animal cruelty charges in Arizona. The charges stem from a raid of Simmons’ Cave Creek home during an investigation of animal cruelty charges against the rapper.

In addition, Arizona police are investigating Simmons for allegedly checking into a hospital in Scottsdale under an assumed name to presumably avoid paying the hospital bill.

A message left with a New York attorney who has represented DMX was not immediately returned at the time of this story.
