Two years after releasing the classic dancehall ballad, ‘Guardian Angel’, dancehall group TOK is hoping for divine intervention as one of its members faces a possible life-threatening ailment.
Twenty-eight-year-old Craig Thompson, aka Craigy T, will tomorrow know the true state of his health after doing a series of tests on his heart.
Thompson said he noticed chest pains from as far back as 2006. A recent Electrocardiogram (ECG) test confirmed that he had an irregular heartbeat. He was also told by doctors that the left ventricle of his heart was not closing as quickly as it should.
“I was young and healthy … well, as far as I knew. Hopefully this is nothing too serious,” Thompson told THE STAR in a telephone interview yesterday.
“The ECG tests found that my heartbeat is very slow,” he said before adding, “I really don’t know yet; it could be anything.”

Interestingly, Thompson says the results tomorrow will also tell if there has been previous minor heart attacks which went unnoticed.
According to the deejay/singer, he felt chest pains and had to seek medical attention while in Japan three years ago.
The doctor told him that he had an irregular heartbeat and instructed him to do a check-up.
But he paid it little attention, claiming he had a cold and thought that was the problem. The chest pains resurfaced again recently while heading to the gym.
“Two months ago I was on my way to the gym and I just made up my mind to go do the test,” he said.
Thompson says he has been taking things slow as he awaits the test results. Asked if he was worried, he said, “It kinda stressing still so I’m taking things a little slow until I can say for sure what I have to do. I just have to deal with it as it comes. One thing is for certain though, mi cyaan stop mek music, that’s for sure.”
Calls to the other members of the group went unanswered, but Craigy T says everyone is keeping their fingers crossed.
TOK, once hailed by the New York Times as “the world’s greatest dancehall-reggae boy band”, was formed in 1993 and three years later appeared on the reggae charts with Hardcore Lover, recorded with Lady Saw.
They have enjoyed tremendous success, particularly in Japan where their debut album, My Crew, My Dawgs, went platinum. Some of their hits include, Footprints, Gal Yu Ah Lead and the controversial Chi Chi Man.
