Jah Jah put I on a different page, chants up-and-coming singer, I-Octane, whose repertoire has consistently featured roots and culture lyrics. And the single Different Page has made such an impact on the dancehall, that it has taken it to the number one slot on the Jamaica Countdown Top 20 Singles Chart. The singer, who did quite well on Dancehall Night at the recent Reggae Sumfest festival, could hardly contain his joy about the fact.
“I thought Different Page was a good song and I have gotten some positive comments from others who have listened to it, but to know that it has made it all the way to the top…well that’s a different feeling entirely,” he told Observer.
Octane said he got some incling that the song had really taken off when he performed for on the Sumfest stage. According to him when he started singing Different Page he was surprised at how the crowd sang along with him, word-for-word.
“I knew it was getting some vibes but I didn’t realise that it was so well known,” he said.
Born Byiome Muir, I-Octane is a son of Clarendon, Sandy Bay to be precise. His love for his parish is evident as he mentions it repeatedly in conversations. The cultural singer describes himself as an easy going person, who does not worry about things. He prides himself in the ability to listen and observe carefully and vows that he will never change, regardless of how successful he becomes as an entertainer.
Under the management of the Arrows label I-Octane is looking forward to going on to bigger things in his career.
His next performance engagement will be at Champions In Action scheduled to be held at the Jamworld Entertainment Complex after which he will head for Holland for the Sundance Festival.
“Of course, going to Holland is a big step in my career. It was earlier this year that I took my first trip overseas to perform and I’m really grateful for all that has been happening for me since then,” he said, adding that he was thankful to those artistes who had gone before and opened up doors for him and his peers to pass through.
