THREE heavyweight musical contenders will be on the card at tonight’s finals of the Wray & Nephew-sponsored televised boxing series, The Contender.
Vybz Kartel, Mavado and I-Octane will be throwing a few lyrical punches of their own as they are slated to provide the evening’s entertainment. Meanwhile, fresh act Melloquene, performer of the theme song for the series, Champion, will open the show.
The hugely successful television series is set to climax with a stellar showdown feature with Devon ‘Joe Fraser’ Moncrieffe and Ricardo ‘The Surgeon’ Smith at the Constant Spring Football Field, to claim the title of Jamaica’s First Wray & Nephew Contender.
With a whopping $1 million at stake, both boxers are confident of pulling off a win. Moncrieffe, who ousted crowd favourite Tsetsi Davis on his way to final, will be looking to keeping his 3-0 professional record intact while number three seed Smith, who got by top seed Sakima Mullings, will be looking to make it six wins and one loss in his professional rank.
