I-Octane wins most culturally aware new artiste

The 10th staging of Portmore awards was a grand, love-filled affair, held at the Sugarman’s Beach in Hellshire, St Catherine, on July 12.

The occasion saw four persons getting awards for their contribution to the entertainment fraternity. I-Octane received the award for being the ‘most culturally aware new artiste’, Vybz Kartel won an award for ‘best lyrics’, Spice was dubbed the ‘female DJ of the year’, while Cobra was awarded the title of ‘most dedicated’. The ‘Star Girls’ received an award for being the top crew from Portmore.

According to organiser Andrew ‘Nuffy’ Nelson, the aim of the annual event is to reward entertainers and business persons in Portmore for their contribution to the industry.

“We think it is good when one is given an award for the work that they do and this is my way of saying thanks to those persons to show that I appreciate them,” Nuffy, said.

Several persons who spoke with the STAR agreed. “I think it is a worthwhile gesture and Nuffy has shown his love for the industry, and although its not a packed event, it is good to see persons turning out,” said Carla Hallingsworth, public relations manager of Supreme Promotions.

Her views were echoed by Promoter of Sting, Isaiah Laing. “It is a good event and more love to Mackeson and Carib Beer for their sponsorship,” he said.

During the event, entertainers such as Monster Twins and Shane-O, passed through and gave their support, by way of entertainment, as the music led by GT Aggregation played into the wee hours of the morning.
