It's Dancehall Night tonight at Reggae Sumfest

Tonight is the celebration of the night which has traditionally attracted the largest turnout to the Greatest Reggae Show on Earth, Reggae Sumfest. With a cast of players that includes dancehall ‘A’ listers like Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, Mavado, Busy Signal and Vybz Kartel along with the don gorgon himself, Ninjaman, roots artiste with a dancehall flava Anthony B, Munga, Wayne Marshall, Voice Mail, Esco, Assassin, Erup, Macka Diamond, Spice, D’Angel, Harry Toddler, I-Octane, Hero, Serrani, Danielle, Mikey Ranks, Mystic Man, Shane-O and Chumps, Dancehall Night is set to be explosive.

These dancehall performers are expected energise the capacity crowd, and in true dancehall style, there will be a few surprises. With so many big name acts on the bill it’s anybody’s guess who will take Dancehall Night – Beenie is expected to close with his usual top class performance, but the Killer showed on Saturday that he’s in good nick and his fan base is as strong as ever. The Gully Creeper man Ele could be the one to crawl from the trenches and stamp his dominance on the festival, while Mavado, Busy and Vybz should not be taken lightly. And, in the mix, there is the Ninja and Mr Tease Her, the Ras Anthony B, who has one of the hottest songs in the dancehall.

This year marks the 16th presentation of the festival and, by all accounts, it’s shaping up to be another first-class event. As usual, Sumfest kicked off with the beach party at Tropical Beach on Sunday, July 13, featuring top sound systems. while Friday and Saturday will continue the tradition of offering the finest reggae singers and bands, alongside top international stars.

Dicigel, Ocean Spray and Air Jamaica, the JTB and VP Records once again signed on as major sponsors of the event while for the first time, Supreme Ventures signed on as a silver sponsor, Red Bull is on board as a Gold sponsor and Jamrock Magazine as a platinum sponsor.
