Rapper Lil Wayne scores his first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week with “Lollipop,” which jumps from No. 2 with the help of 183,000 downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Lil Wayne has made 20 appearances on the Hot 100 since 1999, the majority of which have been via collaborations. As a lead artist, his previous best showing was with “Go D.J.,” which peaked at No. 14 in November 2004.
The rapper’s highly anticipated new album, “Tha Carter III,” has shifted released dates on numerous occasions and is now expected June 10 via Universal.
“Lollipop” flips spots with Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love,” which falls from No. 1 despite being the fastest growing track at radio. Jordin Sparks’ “No Air” featuring Chris Brown holds at No. 3, while Usher’s “Love in This Club” featuring Young Jeezy and Mariah Carey’s “Touch My Body” hold at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively
