Red and White Affair at Bembe

It was a red and white affair at the weekly Bembe Thursdays event held at Weekenz off Constant Spring Road, as patrons turned out in themed attire for the Valentine’s Day special.

From bright coloured red tops, dresses and skirts to full white, females turned out in their numbers, while their male counterparts took the semi-formal mode of dress, clad in jacket and dress pants for some.

The mood was definitely set, as selectors like Razz and Biggy, ZJ Liquid and Jigsy spun up the musical vibes that had patrons rocking and gyrating the night away.

There were even some entertainers among the mix of patrons, as the likes of ‘the doctor’, Beenie Man, Voicemail, Buru Banton and others were in attendance.

But it was the dancers among the audience that stirred much of the vibe and excitement, as dancers like Shelly Belly took the stage and showed off his famous chain spin, while others like Sample Six, Craigy Dread, Bone Crusher, Blaze, Sick in Head, Keiva the Diva, Boysie, G-Unit and a host of others danced up a storm.

“Wah yuh sey Razz, a di girl dem party,” Biggy said, as they favoured playing some of the softer tunes for the ladies like Sean Kingston’s Suicidal and Akon’s Smack That.

Guest selector, ZJ Liquid maintained the steam, as he serenaded all his African Queen, informing that She’s Royal so Give Me A Try.

The mood was not to be all about getting ‘lovey dovey all night, as Jigsy made sure to stir the interest of the gangsters as he played tunes like Mavado’s Fear Mi, before taking time out to remember all his Fallen Soldiers.

Jigsy also had a message, “fi any bwoy wey a gwaan like dem waan beat up selecta fi play dem music,” as he played Busy Signal’s Thugs Bleach A Night. And despite the fact that it was Valentiine’s Day, a time for lovers, patrons still showed love for the hard-talking, gangsta tunes that Jigsy spun.
