Retweet READY – Social media party to integrate Foursquare

Kingston, Jamaica: – The social media party Retweet is ready to forge new ground in the local entertainment world, announcing the integration of social networking and location tagging website Foursquare. The Brandon Allwood-conceptualised event will be using the platform in an official capacity to, according to him, “execute some great things”.

“We reached out to Foursquare and its general manager Evan Cohen with our idea and proposal, and that led to some discussions about the use of Foursquare in Jamaica and for Retweet,” Allwood said.

Foursquare is a location-based mobile platform that makes cities easier to use and more interesting to explore. By “checking in” via a smartphone app or SMS, users share their location with friends while collecting points and virtual badges. Foursquare guides real-world experiences by allowing users to bookmark information about venues that they want to visit and surfacing relevant suggestions about nearby venues.

Foursquare adds 35,000 new users to its platform each day and its total membership comes in at a whopping 8-million active users, checking in on an average of 2.5-million times per day. Last year, the platform registered over half-a-billion check-ins.

“Jamaica is such a beautiful place with so many hidden gems and exciting people, so something life Foursquare is ideal for Jamaica. It even makes doing your regular errands fun. We’re going to be taking the spirit and capabilities of Foursquare and translate them into activities to engage Jamaican party goers and drive them to the platform,” said Allwood.

He said that there would be a citywide treasure hunt, at the end of which an iPad2 would be given away.

“More details on the treasure hunt and the event in general are coming but persons should expect an Retweet to be fully integrated in their lifestyle.”

Retweet will be Jamaica’s first mass social media oriented event, and will be integrating the three most popular social media platforms – Twitter, Foursquare, and Facebook – in the event.

For now, persons can follow Retweet on Twitter (@Retweet_JA) and on Facebook (Retweet: The ULTIMATE Social Media Beach Party), where the organisers will be disseminating most of its information in the coming weeks, including its entertainment line-up.
