2011 Youth View Awards Review

by Leslie-Anne Johnson (Jahkno.com)

Young, hot and hype was the theme of this year’s Youth View Awards (YVA) 2011, and surely the youths who attended weren’t short of that with respect to dress code. From ball gowns and tux to straight, fitted jeans and couture dresses, patrons arrived at the National Indoor Sports Center thirsty in anticipation of what YVA Nation had in store for them. CEO of An Elegant Affair Events, Karen Clarke, and her team made sure that all sections were catered to. The National Indoor Sports Center especially decked out for the occasion. Upon entering the venue a giant sized headphone lay in the midst of the car park while the blood red carpet perfectly paved the way to the entrance.

VVIP patrons were greeted by charming and beautiful hostesses, along with small chocolate fountain which bubbled away merrily. This set the pace as to what was in store for VVIP patrons. The General patrons were sat in the bleachers, VIP in comfortable chairs and VVIP tables sat four where gift bags were laden lovely goodies such as mini speakers courtesy of Digicel and chocolate covered strawberries from The Credit Unions of Jamaica and YVA Nation’s magazine. This year at YVA they had a newly introduced section. It was called the KFC Hype Box which was situated directly at the stage’s front. The YVA’s entertainment began at the red carpet with performances from Keida and Shawn Storm, and music by DJ Naz.

New sensation Denyque started the night off followed by singer Raine Seville, who did a tribute to Bob Marley, singing I Wanna Be Loved, backed by a live band. Hosts for the night was the sexy Rocsi Diaz, from BET’s 106 & Park and Zj Bambino of Zip 103 fm. Bambino wasn’t short of keeping the crowd entertained with his many impersonations one such being Elephant Man. Patrons were well entertained by many performances from: Munga Honorable who sang some of his most recent tunes like Clean and Fresh Buss It Like An Earthquake and others. Trevor Offkey a.k.a. Bambino rendered Fake Jeans and was joined in a surprise performance by Vybz Kartel with Straight Jeans and Fitted, Cakesoap along with Sheba and Russian had the entire audience on their feet. Richie Loops sang his tunes Party Cup and was joined by D-Major for Party Like It’s Your Birthday. Khago’s Nah Sell Out, White Tees and Addidas acts were followed by a tribute to the late Coppercat. Cecile’s performance was accompanied by a female mini dancer who bumped along to Whoot Whoot, Cyaan Done and then exchanged for two enticing male dancers Coffee. Ikaya also performed her song Hard Way which included a strong dramatic piece. Tifa who sang Move Yuh Body, Cyaan Stop Shine, and Certified Divas along with Tami Chynn closed the show with a feisty performance which included acrobatic gestures. An explosion of confetti filled the inner venue which surely indicated the closing of the YVA’s.
