Dancehall’s newest sensation, Serani, has been gaining popularity in the Caribbean.
Recently, two of Trinidad and Tobago’s top artistes, Machel Montano and Soca superstar Shurwayne Winchester, both asked Serani to feature on tracks with them.
With Trinidad and Tobago’s world-famous carnival season kicking off next February, Serani will, no doubt, be in demand for appearances during the festivities.
According to Serani: “Both tracks are for the ladies, of course, and are very hot.”
Widen audience base
“It’s great to work with such big Soca icons. I try and appeal to all audiences, so something like this is natural for me. Being a musician, I love all types of music, so stepping on to a Soca rhythm is something I jumped at!”
The tracks with Shurwayne Winchester is tentatively titled All I Need, with Pepper being the title for the collaboration with Machel Montano.
“We’ve worked together for many years and when Serani came to me, last year, and said he wanted to explore his talents as an artiste, we sat down and put together a plan and structure of where we want to take his career,” said his manager Julian Jones-Griffith.
“I think he has progressed very well in the first 12 months. He must be a strong contender for Best New Artiste for 2008. Any new artiste has to work extremely hard to maintain and develop a long-term career, which is harder than trying to buss. It’s also crucial to build in other markets, as the music industry is pretty much crippled these days, so step-outs like these are essential for his growth.” Jones-Griffiths added.
