(Kingston, Jamaica) Reggae’s darling vocalist Sophia Brown who recently returned to the island fresh from a 3 week promotional stint in the U.S is turning up the musical heat with a steamy reggae rendition of famed R&B singer Betty Wright’s 1978 hit single “Tonight Is The Night“.
A production of Brown’s Music Mecka record label, the remake comes as a pleasant surprise to fans all across the world who can now relive one of the most memorably and controversial songs in r&b during the late 70’s with a reggae flavor. Mixed and recorded by studio extraordinaire Steven Stanley, the song which will be officially released on October 4th by Zojak Worldwide is the first of two cover songs Brown will release ahead of her upcoming Sophomore album “Catch Me If You Can“.
Once one of the brightest stars in the business, Betty Wright was a pioneer in the evolution of r&b, from the mid 1960’s – mid 1990’s her songs placed heavily on many charts across the world in several genres including Dance, Disco, Pop and Gospel.
In other news Sophia Brown is slated to perform at the Plug N Play live showcase on September 23rd at Jonkanoo Lounge located on the Wyndham Hotel Poolside in New Kingston. The show will also feature a host of other artists including Nesbeth, Imar, Marlowe Skye, Jah Hem, Okeebo and the Warrior Love Band.
