Spice for Daggerin' condoms

Deejay Spice will be the new face, of Vybz Kartel’s Daggerin’ condoms.

A commercial for the condoms, which was based on the Rampin’ Shop video, featuring both Spice and Kartel, has already begun airing on RETV and Hype TV.

An exuberant Spice was happy to be a part of the Daggerin’ condoms team. “When Addi called me and ask me to be a part of the product I said ‘of course’. I believe in safe sex and this is the most important project I could be a part of right now.”

Kartel was happy to have Spice on the team. He told the STAR, “The reason we came up with the idea to add Spice to the campaign is because of the success of the Rampin’ Shop single. Also, Spice has a huge fan base and is the leading lady of dancehall. So it only made sense for the emperor of dancehall and the leading lady to help take such an important product and push the issue of safe sex in Jamaica.”

Business partner

Vybz Kartel expanded his empire to the business world over a year ago, introducing his Vybz Rum, and followed in November 2008 with his Daggerin’ condoms. Now Kartel and his business partner Corey Todd have expanded the popular condoms with two new products.

When the STAR spoke with Todd he said one of the new condoms, inspired by the single Rampin’ Shop will be called ‘Ramp Ruff’. They are studded and will be appearing in various colours. The other condom is called ‘Timeless Daggerin’ and is inspired by Kartel’s lyrics.

According to Todd, Daggerin’ condoms have been a hot commodity in the dancehall since their inception, but haven’t always been the easiest product to find on the market.

“Due to the demand, we felt like we had to regroup and bring something to the marketplace that can make our product be the number one condom in Jamaica. The condoms are also in a one of a kind box which slides open and they are very neat and compact.”

In regards to the Vybz Rum, Todd admitted that getting the product into the market hasn’t been an easy task. Only limited supplies have been available thus far. However, according to Todd, Vybz Rum will, hopefully, soon be available to the entire Jamaica, as the managers are currently looking for a new distributor for the product.

“It has been doing well – a lot of respect to the overseas market. Now, is just to put it where it needs to go,” Todd said.’
