Tami Chynn set to buss out

The newly blonde bombshell Tami Chynn is showcasing the fresh face of her music with the upcoming release of her second album ‘Prima Donna’.

After nabbing a part in Pepsi’s new ‘Kung Fu Pepsi’ campaign, working alongside internationally acclaimed producer and artiste Akon and going on tour with seminal boy band New Kidz on the Block, Tami Chynn is finally exploding onto the international scene.

Chynn became the second Jamaican female act, following Brick and Lace, to be signed to Akon’s Konvict Muzik label.

The STAR caught up with Chynn, who currently lives and works from Atlanta in the United States of America (USA), recently when she took a few days off to come home and spread the word on her album.

Expect a huge hit

If the single Frozen, which features Akon, is any indication of what Prima Donna will be like, Chynn can expect a huge hit.

The funky pop sound of Frozen took airwaves by storm locally and internationally recently, showing off a novel style to Chynn’s music. Chynn, whose music typically fuses pop with dancehall, has eliminated the dancehall aspect from this song.

While some may pay attention to Akon’s influence on the album, Chynn says her completed second album, which is to be released next year, stands on its own, in terms of having a solid musical quality.

“It’s very pop influenced. A couple of songs have a dancehall vibe but it’s a new side. I feel like having fun, to explore different genres and to create something new,” Chynn explained.

Since meeting and working with Akon, the last year for Chynn has been hectic. The artiste has been constantly recording and travelling, doing shows and meeting new people.

New work ethic

According to Chynn, working with Akon has taught her a whole new work ethic. She describes the artiste as ‘driven’. but for Chynn the best lesson learnt from her new mentor is to keep focused and be prepared for anything in the tough world of music.

While the artiste is being exposed to a whole new world stage, for Chynn, being home in Jamaica, even for a few days, counts among the greatest experiences she has had of late.

While in Canada with Akon, Chynn met Ellen Healy of PepsiCo and the opportunity for the commercial was presented. The Pepsi commercial, which was launched on Monday at Carlos’ Café in Kingston, features Chynn, superstar Shaggy, rapper T-Pain and comedic actor Verne ‘Mini Me’ Troyer.

Hopeful boost

“This commercial will hopefully boost me the right way,” Chynn told The STAR. “It’s a great opportunity… it was my manager Jules Dougall who really made it happen. She pushed and pushed. It was really fun doing it, it will put my career on the international scene. Hopefully people will see it and ask ‘who is that girl walking with T-Pain?’ or ‘who is that girl singing?”

For the future it’s more touring, a lot more performances and who knows what else will happen for the ‘prima donna’ Tami.
