Dane Johnson aka Chapa was born in Jamaica, growing up in the parish of St Catherine on October 15. He attended the Jose Marti Technical High School. Chapa migrated to New Jersey in 2015 and has always loved music but really got involved in it when he was introduced to fellow producer Levels_LVL in 2021.
It was then he learned about producing at the Levels To Life Production studio in New Jersey but hasn’t started making his own beats yet. All his beats are supplied by ET of E.T. Tribe Entertainment, “one of the baddest beatmakers,” says Chapa. Soon afterwards, he established his own label, Chappy Pow Records, which is currently based in Jamaica and New Jersey. By 2022, he produced his first track but his first official release was 1Thaly’s “Believe” which came out in June of 2023.
Chapa hasn’t worked with a lot of artists just yet but it’s all in the making, he adamantly stated. However, he’s worked with Nhance, son of Gaza Sheba who has quite a buzz going on now, and Kant10t so far on tracks titled “Family” and “Money Up”, a collaboration with 1Tahly, respectively. He says working with them was fine but in the future, he would like to do a project co-produced with DJ Mac and/or Rvssian. 1Tahly is the only artist Chapa has signed to his label at the moment with many unreleased tracks in the works for 2024 and other future projects.
“I hope to be one of the best producers in the music industry. I would like to share good music throughout my work showing others that no matter what we can make it if we put our minds to it. I’ve been getting a lot of positive feedback which I’m grateful for,” Chapa said.
With hard work and determination, Chapa is definitely on the right path to success, not just for himself but also for his label Chappy Pow Records and his artist 1Tahly.
