Wayne Wonder’s No Letting Go Certified Gold in the US

International recording artist Wayne Wonder is elated right now after learning his 2002 hit single No Letting Go has been certified gold in the United States, almost 20 years after the song was first released.

“The feeling is amazing. The song came from a genuine place in my heart,” Wonder stated.

No Letting Go is featured on the popular Diwali Riddim by producer Steven ‘Lenky’ Marsden. It was released in Jamaica back in 2002, then internationally in January 2003.

Wayne Wonder No Letting Go about his girlfriend

Early this year, the legendary singer spoke with DJ Kash’s Podcast, about how he came up with the song.

Challenged by his now wife Jackie to do a song about her instead of his usual casual affairs with other women, Wonder said he went down into the basement of his home in Queens, New York, and began playing with the keys on the beat, Diwali riddim producer Lenky (Steven Marsden) had sent him.

The lyrics just flowed, “it was like magic,” he said. “It just came out – ‘Got somebody…’ – cause everything I singing bout, I know -‘She is a beauty, very special’ … ‘you right by my side… night and day’,” he sang to demonstrate how he came up with the verses to the host.

The Joy Ride singer whose real name is Von Wayne Charles, said that most, if not all, of his songs, were inspired by his own real-life experiences or his witness to other people’s situations.

The certification commemorating sales exceeding 500,000 units was issued Wednesday by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

No Letting Go peaked at No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart, No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, No. 8 on US Rhythmic, No. 7 on Rap Singles and No. 14 on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts.

It was certified gold in the United Kingdom in November 2020.
