Wyclef, Shaggy and More Rock Waterford High School

Kingston, Jamaica — If someone had told the students of Waterford High they would get the chance to see international superstar, and former Fugee, Wyclef Jean perform live, they would have thought it was a hoax.

However, telecommunications giant, LIME, made it possible and gave the students a surprise many may find difficult to top. Wyclef, who made a bombshell appearance on Friday afternoon on the grounds of Waterford High as part of LIME’s School Tour in the St. Catherine region, gave not only a brief, yet stellar performance, he also encouraged the students to only reach for the best.

“If you come from the ghetto, don’t let them tell you, you’re nothing. People from ghetto are the only ones who can take a rock and turn it into a diamond,” said Wyclef, former Haitian presidential hopeful, shortly after performing his hit, Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill).

Fellow international heavy-hitter, Shaggy, who had called Wyclef to the stage, also made his entrance to thunderous roars from the students. Reeling off a catalogue of hits including, Angel, Strength Of A Woman and the recent For Your Eyes Only featuring Alaine, the notorious ‘Mr. Boombastic’ was an instant hit with the students.

Prior to Wyclef and Shaggy hitting the stage other celebrated performances included: newcomer, Versatile with Bank Inna Mi Pocket; the general of the ‘hot gal’ army, Timberlee with No Stress, The General, So Sexy In My Heels; Alaine, who had all the students belting her songs, We Rise, What A World (This Would Be), No Ordinary Love, Dreaming of You which features Beenie Man; QQ, his wire waist and his tracks, Since You’ve Been Gone, Stookie and Room Ram were also undeniable hits with the students.

Other established artistes including Voicemail and TOK, also made their entrance to piercing screams from the students. Similar to Wyclef, QQ and Alaine, when Voicemail members Craig and Kevin left the stage to greet the students, they were almost dragged into the crowd by the excited students. Even with a damaged leg, singer, Kevin had to limp offstage to greet the students while singing their energetic tracks: Just Dance, Hey, Nuh Behaviour, Style and Swagga and others.

Members of TOK suffered a similar fate at the hands of the students, each member being dragged and squeezed by excited students.

However, performances weren’t the only order of the day. Eight students were awarded new LIME Blackberry Gemini phones for being top achievers in their respective fields. The phones were presented by Chris Dehring, LIME Jamaica Chairman. In addition, the Waterford High School was given three new computers and free internet access for a year, also courtesy of LIME.
