Yohan Blake is back in form and says fans should expect “great things” on tonight’s second evening of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association’s (JAAA) Senior Championships at the national stadium.

The 2011 IAAF world Championships gold medallist who has been off the scene the last two years due to a series of injuries, easily won his second round heat last night in 10.26 seconds (-1.0m/s), beating training partner Kemar Bailey-Cole, also 10.26 seconds, Tyquendo Tracey – 10.29 seconds and Oshane Bailey – 10.39 seconds to the tape.

He was not happy with the execution however and said the blocks slipped at the start of the race throwing him off his race plan.

“I am feeling well,” he told OBSERVER ONLINE, “but the blocks slipped at the start and I was not able to control the race as soon as I wanted, it took a while to get to the front.”

Blake who has a season’s best of 9.94 seconds and has run under 10.00 seconds twice this season, was drawn in lane four. One race earlier Asafa Powell, who was also in lane four, appeared to slip at the start, causing the starter to call back the race.

Despite this however, Blake predicted he will be running well later today, “God is working through me so expect great things.”

The semi-finals are set for 7:12pm with the finals set to run two hours later.

Nickel Ashmeade’s 10.07 seconds was the fastest in the second round last night followed by Usain Bolt’s 10.15 seconds, the same time run by Jevaugh Minzie, a new personal best; Everton Clarke ran 10.16 seconds while Warren Weir and Asafa Powell both ran 10.17 seconds.
