Following rumours that Vybz Kartel’s mother and sister were killed on the weekend, the police have advised the artiste’s mother to be more vigilant.

Karl Angell, director of communication for the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), said he could not give the details of what security measures she was advised to take or why the police were concerned, but confirmed that they have urged her to be careful. “We advised her to pay a lot more attention to her security,” he said.

Over the weekend, rumours began to circulate that the deejay’s mother and sister were shot and killed. The rumours forced the police to make checks at the artiste’s mother’s home and also to speak with her about her safety.

THE STAR attempted to speak with the mother but had difficulty locating her. However, the news team subsequently found out that Kartel’s mother and three of her daughters were spotted at church on Sunday morning.

Security concerns

A source close to the family told THE STAR that there have been security concerns surrounding the mother, who has been receiving recent threats. According to the source, as a precautionary measure, Kartel’s mother was advised to change her telephone numbers and not to share the new ones with anyone. She was also advised not to speak with anyone about the situation.

This comes after Kartel, whose real name is Adidjah Palmer, was released from police custody last Friday after being detained two days earlier. He was questioned about the murder of Christopher ‘Nunu Puss’ Miller, whose body was found on August 31 on Goshen Road in Bernard Lodge, St Catherine.

In an article carried in THE STAR on Saturday, it was reported that since Miller’s death, rumours began to circulate that Kartel was somehow involved. Kartel, however, said the rumours were started by persons who were trying to smear his name. “A jus’ some people a try mek it look like Kartel a di evilest man inna di world,” he said in the story.
