Reggae crooner, Jah Cure, and television broadcaster/former Miss Jamaica World contestant Kamila McDonald tied the knot recently, August 7, 2011, at the Tryall Resort in Hanover. Numerous public and media pronouncements were that it was an Ethiopian Orthodox wedding service, however the Ethiopian Orthodox Church in Jamaica has placed an advertisement in today’s Sunday Gleaner, apparently distancing itself from the wedding. Although Jah Cure’s name is not specifically mentioned in the ad, it is obvious which wedding it is referring to.
Here are the details from the ad:
PUBLIC NOTICE
The Ethiopian Orthodox Church in Jamaica uses this medium to inform the public at large that it had nothing do with a wedding that was performed at the Tryall Golf Club, Hanover, on August 7, 2011.
This event could not have been carried out under the name of the Church, as this would defy the Supreme Court’s decision on June 15, 2007, which indicates that the schism are no longer members or a part of the church and prevents their occupation of the church premises.
